There are so many weight loss programs on TV these days. Many of these weight loss programs are actually fad diets which do not work in the long run. Still, billions of dollars are spent every year by people following weight loss program after weight loss program. What if I told you that there is a much better and cheaper way to lose weight than spending money on weight loss programs. The only thing you need is a little knowledge of how your body works. Instead of talking about a weight loss program to lose weight, let's talk about insulin.

Insulin is a hormone that is released by your pancreas. One of its purposes is to escort sugar in your blood to each of the trillions of cells in your body to be used for energy. Every time you eat food that contains carbohydrates (sugar, starches, etc.) your pancreas will release insulin as the carbs are broken down into simple blood sugar (glucose). Some foods cause the pancreas to raise insulin levels quickly while others cause a slower more gradual release of insulin.

This makes it harder for sugar to get into your cells so the pancreas keeps pumping out more insulin to get the sugar into your cells. Now you have all of this insulin and sugar floating around in your bloodstream. This can eventually lead to Type 2 Diabetes. But wait, it gets worse. Insulin is also a fat-storing hormone.

Much of this sugar will be converted into triglycerides (a form of fat) and stored in your body as fat. In order to store less fat in your body (without needing a weight loss program), you have to keep your insulin levels from rising too quickly and increase the sensitivity of your cells to the effects of insulin.

Eating a diet high in fiber (especially soluble fiber) can help keep insulin levels from spiking. Also, eating protein with carbs helps the carbs to break down into sugar more slowly so insulin is released more gradually. You can see that a weight loss program isn't necessary for you to control your weight. A tool like the glycemic index can help you lose weight without needing weight loss programs and fad diets. The glycemic index is a chart that can help you to choose foods that maintain healthy insulin levels.

When your body stores less fat and your cells are able to get the sugar they need for energy, your body can burn fat rather than store it. You can lose weight without needing a weight loss program. Many weight loss programs promise to help you lose weight quickly but weight loss programs such as these should be avoided. A healthy diet, aerobic exercise, and strength training together will help you lose weight without a weight loss program.
